Pack a Poem

So, it's April, have you been celebrating? I'll confess. I. completely. forgot!!! Until now. So I just pulled out some of my fave poetry anthologies and put a few out on the kitchen table and another on the bean's pillow. Tonight should be fun- it's taco night, grandma and grandpa are coming over and we're all gonna read some poems!

And then tomorrow morning when I'm packing lunch, guess what I'll be wrapping around the bean's string cheese?
A poem!

I Eat My Peas with Honey by Anonymous

I eat my peas with honey;
I've done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife.

If you're packing lunch too, join me and include a poem. It's a great way to get your kiddo excited about poetry. If you have slightly older kids who are reading, another fun poem for this wold be "Bleezer's Ice Cream" by Jack Prelutsky (a poet known for his humorous poetry for children).

Our town had a poem in your pocket day that my kids were so excited about! My two olders wrote a poem and carried it around but did not want to wear the little stickers they had been given to indicate that they actually had a poem in their pocket! I think they just felt comforted knowing they were prepared when and if someone asked them if they had a poem! And indeed they wer both asked and both able to read their wonderful little poems! So proud...
