Read This

Want a quick read that you and your little can return to again and again? Honey, I Love and Other Poems is what the doctor ordered! Written by Eloise Greenfield, a highly regarded children’s poet, and illustrated by Leo and Diane Dillon each of the sixteen poems are written from a child’s perspective. The book was first published in 1978, but nothing seems out of date, rather, it’s a classic. Here is an excerpt from Honey, I Love, the title poem:

I love

I love a lot of things, a whole lot of things

Like

My cousin comes to visit and you know he’s from the South

‘Cause every word he says just kind of slides out of his mouth

I like the way he whistles and I like the way he walks

But honey, let me tell you that I LOVE the way he talks

I love the way my cousin talks.

This book has won numerous awards and recognitions such as Reading Rainbow and ALA Notable Children’s Book. Check it out!

I really like that poem. I'm going to see if I can find this book at my library.
