Did you know that one of the biggest political problems in the United States today is the lack of voter turnout? In the 2000 election, just over half the population (51%) voted. It’s never too early to start talking to our kids about this important responsibility we have as Americans. And this election will affect the future of our kids quite significantly, so shouldn’t we get them involved?
Here are a few eensies to help the kiddies get excited and involved this election day
- create a "Countdown to Vote" calendar with your child and let them tear the days away as it approaches
- have them create buttons, t-shirts, posters or signs that say, "I'll be voting in 2020" (or whatever year they are of age) to wear to the polls
- help them make their own ballot that they can bring and fill out while you cast your vote
- set up a mock-election for them and their friends
- and most importantly, when you get there, let them pull the lever in the booth!!!

Our teen agers have come into the voting booth with us since they could walk. One of them dressed up like the Electoral College for halloween 4 years ago. She collected candy in a ballot box. They are so excited to be pulling the lever this year.
