Now that you have one way of displaying your child’s favorite art piece of the month (Picasso in the House), what do you do with the rest of their masterpieces?Low-Tech: Here at eensies, we L-O-V-E a well organized 3-ring binder (who doesn’t?). Get a big one and mark it with the school year and child it's intended for (Henry 2008-2009), put in some dividers for each month of the year, fold up the artwork if necessary and put 3 holes in it. Easy, organized and low maintenance!
High-Tech: If you don’t want to keep tons of paper around, you can scan the artwork. Make sure you label each piece with a descriptive name like “Falling Leaves-Watercolors-October 2008” for easy reference. Don't forget to back this all up! This would make a great holiday gift for the grandparents. You could also get a rotating digital picture frame that is loaded with your sweetie’s digital work for a constantly changing art show. How cool is that?

This is so timely! Just yesterday my 3 year old came home with his first 9x12 piece of artwork from pre-school. I happened to have a long and thin metal magnet strip from container store that just sticks onto the wall (careful to place it right the first time...it sticks like glue!). I popped it up onto a kitchen wall that needed some color anyway, and stuck his picture right up. SInce it's magnets, it will be so easy to rotate when the next Picasso comes home -
love it oteach and will definitely be implementing this idea once A is in school. what else do folks do with all the masterpieces that come home?
We produce amazing amounts of art at home. Some of it has gone into frames and the binder you suggested.
We also use it to make note cards to send as Thank You notes. Every so often I pull out the blank cards and have them do their daily art project on the cards. You could also do this by cutting and pasting peices of the art that comes home to the blank cards (cards can be found at local craft store like Micheal's). Using their art to say Thank You is a really special way to make it important and reinforce the value of a simple Thanks!
We also do art on fabric with fabric markers and sew little pillows or super simple dolls for them to play with their art. You could also do this by scanning the art into the computer and printing it on the fabric you can put through the printer.
Art is a great part of our lives. Thanks for sharing ideas.
To get through the massive amounts we produce here, we save some and photograph the rest. Much quicker than scanning and more practical as our scanner is only A4 and most paintings are A3. The photos are labeled and kept in their own digital folder. The kids love having some computer time to scroll through their creations.
