Picasso in the House

As I was sending home my students' latest paintings the other day, I started thinking about what families can do when they are inundated with their sweetheart’s masterpieces. Eensies has tons of ideas about organization we plan to share. This one's to promote your little Picasso.

Get a picture frame (16 x 20 seems to work for me) from your local art supply store. These usually come with a mat frame for pieces that are not so big. At the end of the month, when you have collected all of the beauties your little has brought home, sit down with your child and look them all over. Keep in mind what Rebecca discussed last week in “Good Job”, Bad Parent. Start your praises with neutral comments like, “I see that you added so many details to this picture of our family” or “I can tell you spent a lot of time coloring in the background of this park picture.” Encourage your child to talk about a few pieces with statements like, "tell me about this one". After a few minutes of chit-chat ask your child which is their favorite piece and why (get your little talking in a descriptive way). The piece they choose goes into that picture frame and gets hung for everyone in the family to enjoy. Each month they can choose a new piece to display. Voila, your own rotating gallery!

Coming up soon: What to do with all of the other pieces of work your child brings home?
