Sure, baking with your child is a good way to occupy a rainy afternoon. But, did you know that baking could also lead to some memorable math? The mathematics of cooking often goes unnoticed, but there's a lot of math in there. Imagine your kiddo measuring the flour, counting the tablespoons of sugar, estimating how many chocolate chips are in the bag and counting the number of times you stir the mix. Mmm, who knew math could be so tasty?

Extra credit: Once the cookies are done, practice dividing them amongst your family members, "1 for me, 1 for mom, 1 for dad"...etc. Now you're exploring fractions to boot!
